Smash N Bash | Dallas-Fort Worth Longest operating Rage Room

Opening in December of 2019, Smash N Bash Rage Room became the fourth rage room to ever open in Dallas or Fort Worth, Texas. At the time, the owner’s Julie and Richard Devaney were looking for a business that would encompass the things they enjoyed and still afford them opportunities to grow and give back to their community.

Richard was working at a Texas County Tax Assessors Office and was absolutely miserable while at work. Julie was working for Domino’s Pizza as a cook. While researching to do something different on a day off, Richard found a video of the first ever Rage Room in Dallas-Fort Worth. “Anger Room,” opened by Donna Alexander in 2006. Unfortunately, the very next video was the news story of her murder.

Thinking that the opportunity was missed, Richard decided to leave his government job and open his own rage room. Just so he could break some stuff to get rid of his depression. Julie was tired of working at Domino’s so the pair took their savings and retirement and worked to open Smash N Bash LLC rage room.

Grand Opening

The doors unofficially opened on December 12th, 2019, as a “soft opening”. Noone knew about rage rooms, nor did they know when to show up. Julie and Richard’s daughter copied the video feed from one of our tests on how well our room worked when it came to breaking stuff. She then posted the cut on Twitter (now X), and within 4 hours the video had gone viral. With over 2 million views in less than 24 hours, ABC affiliate in Dallas, WFAA took notice. When we officially opened on the 13th, our very first customer was one of their reporters, David Goins. The story can be seen here.

The viral video and the news coverage helped launch the business off the ground. Thank you to both Chloe and David for their support in the beginning.

Covid-19 | Shut Down & Survival

Coronavirus hit the United States in late November of 2019, primarily on the West coast. By March of 2020, it had spread across the country, causing mass hysteria and panic. Governors were shutting down their states to “protect its citizens.” (Hindsight is 20/20 ironically) On March 18th, 2020, the State of Texas decided that dictatorship was the solution to what we now call a seasonal virus (another word for flu), a medicinal problem. We were forced to close our doors until June 1st, 2020. During that time, we had expanded our location and added what was to become our Splatter Painting activity. The first time we went mainstream in our facility. There were and still are other places that offer splatter painting. However, we incorporated neon tempura paints with blacklight lighting, when others still use same old regular acrylics.

Giving Back to the Community

Every year since 2020, we have made donations to Charities within the Dallas-Fort Worth area. We have donated cash and gifts each to benefit children in need. We have made donation to Project NICU, Just for J, Wish with Wings, and Christ’s Haven for Children to name a few (feel free to send them something to help their causes). We have donated our time to schools for career day, demonstrations, and to raise money for PTAs, Booster Clubs, and Academic Clubs.

This has always been part of what Julie and Richard envisioned when they began Smash N Bash rage room. They wanted to give back something to the community they were both raised in. In April of 2026, Smash N Bash developed its first ever fundraiser program to assist these groups even further. The end goal is to support more children in the Dallas-Fort Worth area than ever before.

Future Plans

Only the creator knows what the future has planned for Smash N Bash rage room. The owners are always looking for new opportunities to improve their commitment to the community, their staff, and growth of the company. Some ideas the owners are considering in the future include:

  • Summer Art Camp/Lessons
  • Expanding the original rage room to accomidate more people
  • Relocation/2nd location
  • Party Room
  • Mobile splatter painting parties
  • and more!

Whatever the future holds, Smash N Bash rage room is committed to ensuring continuation of their involvement within their community.
